Like change, conflict is inevitable. It’s part of human nature, life and the busy arena of sports activities. But it doesn’t have to be hostile, damaging or permanent.
As athletic director, resolution often falls to you. How you handle it can make a huge difference in your program’s environment. Consider offering a program before conflicts arise that outlines procedures and enhances everyone’s skills in avoiding issues and reaching solutions when needed.
When conflict does occur, begin by gathering the facts. Keep conversations away from personal grudges or inappropriate behavior and seek workable alternatives.
