When athletes are considering playing multiple sports, help them see and evaluate the pros and cons so they can make informed decisions.
While you or your coaches may want to influences their choices, it’s best to make sure the students and their parents are well-informed, make their own decisions, and then are well-managed, supported and encouraged in your program.
One way to think about it is your swim/dive team. Swimmers choose different events—freestyle, butterfly, medley relay, etc. Some stick to one competition; others enter more than one. And they all share the pool, along with those who dive. While it’s all water-related, you might think of each area as a different “sport.”
