One of my friends always had the best answer when someone asked her what position she played: “Left bench, but I really like center mid.”
She never said it maliciously. It was always with a smile.
She is one of the very few people I know who has graciously come to terms with her role on her team as a bench player. It’s a tough thing to do; no one wants to not be playing the sport they train for. But what she is able to accept is that her effort in practice pushes the starters to be their best, which leads to team success.
